Course Description - Brain Gym in Action: Canadian International Summer Institute

Brain Gym for Educators - (bilingual - English with French Translation)

With Carol Ann Erickson
Monday to Thursday, August 2-5

Movement and play are our foundation for learning. Through the natural course of physical development the child should have created the resources needed for later academic learning. At times some of the stages of development are skipped or have not been practiced enough to support learning in the classroom.

Brain Gym is a movement based learning program developed to be easily used in the classroom.

  • Provides a readiness program for learning
  • Supports the physical side of the learning process
  • Can be done in less than 5 minutes
  • Requires no extra equipment
  • Reduces stress
  • Supports the coordination of the eyes for reading, ears for listening, gross motor and fine motor coordination
  • Improves our ability to focus, organize and communicate

Brain Gym for Educators looks at the importance of movement, the development of dominance profiles, sensory integration and the correlation of developing motor skills to the learning process. Participants will explore the Brain Gym movements and correlate them with learning functions as well as learning survey tools to better understand movement and learning challenges. Included in the course instruction, will be strategies for classroom application and the development of student self-management.
